How to Make Gingerbread Cookies

Delicious recipe from the Land’s End Christmas 1990 Catalog.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup soft shortening
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups dark molasses
  • 2/3 cup cold water
  • 6 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. clove
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

    Mix shortening, brown sugar and molasses, stir in water.

    Blend all dry ingredients and stir into mix.

    Chill two hours.

    Roll out dough 1/2" thick. Cut desired shapes and place on lightly greased cookie sheet.

    Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes.

    Frost with powdered sugar frosting.
